Overview

Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (PTR) profession has started by the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman just after the liberation war. The consequences of liberation war were very much tragedy as the freedom fighters & general peoples were significantly injured by the Pakistani army and local enemies. In the year 1972, the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman bring the renowned Orthopedic Surgeon Prof. Dr. R J Gurst and Specialist Physiotherapist Dr. Valerie-A-Taylor from Britain for serving the injured peoples and established the RIHD (Present name is NITOR). In 1973 Orthopedic surgery and Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) program under the medicine faculty of Dhaka University started at RIHD in a same day at same place but after two batch BPT admission and the tragedic history of 1975 it was stopped the admission of Physiotherapy whereas the orthopedic surgery was continued. Then Dr. Valerie-A Taylor establishes Center for the Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP) and started Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) program under the medicine faculty of Dhaka University at BHPI, CRP, Savar, Dhaka.

Jashore University of Science and Technology has started 5 (Five) Year Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) program in the department of physiotherapy & rehabilitation (PTR) under the health science faculty in 2018-2019 session. The national and international University and hospitals are supporting this department directly and indirectly. Physiotherapy is an autonomous health care profession which is guided by Bangladesh Physiotherapy Association (BPA) and World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) in Bangladesh. In 2018 it has establish a government regulatory body which is Bangladesh Rehabilitation Council Act.

Globally the health requirements are changing and the demand of Physiotherapy Doctors are increasing day by day. The non communicable disease like Musculo-skeletal problems, stroke, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis etc are greater challenge where Physiotherapy Doctors are the pioneer professional to support these type of patients.

To produce international standard Physiotherapy Doctor and support national and global health services the University has taken this initiatives. It also aimed to export quality professional throughout the world. This department is also serving the local peoples who have actually required physiotherapy treatment through different program.

Jashore University of Science and Technology would like to be pioneer in this south-east region in the rehabilitation health sector. International standard faculty members, well organized laboratory, quality student entrance, research facility, natural campus, supportive administration and national-global collaboration are the prime strength of this department.

Now it’s running 5 (Five) Year Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) program and very near it will start Masters of Physiotherapy (MPT) and Clinical Doctoral Program (D.Sc. PT). Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor was the founder chairman of this department. Dr. Md. Feroz Kabir, PT is the running chairman who is also the faculty member of this department.
